Join us on a trip to one of the biggest attractions of Colombia – the scared lake that inspired the legend of El Dorado, and the beautiful town of Guatavita. We will venture out of the city of Bogotá in a private van to enjoy a traditional Colombian breakfast in a picturesque town. From there, we will take a one and a half hour hike round trip from the town to the sacred Lake Guatavita, enjoying the lush vegetation and unique Andean ecosystem along the way. We will learn about why the indigenous Muisca people held this lake in reverence and the myth surrounding it that inspired the El Dorado legend. Afterwards we will head back to the town to relax and try a tasty lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Bogotá.

Things to know before you book:

• Ages 4-100, so long as you´re able to walk long distances for extended periods
• Max of 30 people per group
• Duration: 8–9 hours
• Start time:  8:00 AM, depending on availability
• Tours are either in Spanish or English, or both, depending on the group

Itinerary:

Start At: The Cranky Croc Hostel, Cl. 12d #346, Bogotá, Colombia

• **Please make sure to go inside the hostel to the reception desk and inform the receptionist that you are here for this tour.**
• We will wait 15 minutes from the starting time for everyone to arrive. If you are going to be late, please contact us by WhatsApp before the start of the tour.
• Please give yourself enough time when leaving your hotel/accomodation as traffic in Bogotá can be very dense, and sometimes it´s difficult to order via a ride-share service (Uber, Cabify, etc.)

Stop: Guatavita, Cundinamarca Department 

• We will drive approximately an hour and a half to the beautiful town of Guatavita
• Our first stop will be to enjoy a traditional Colombian breakfast and then stroll the cobblestone streets of this historic town
• Next we will embark on an approximate 1.5 hour roundtrip hike to the sacred Lake Guatavita, where the legend of El Dorado is believe to have derived from
• Once back in the town, we will have lunch at a local restaurant before heading back to Bogotá
• Duration: Approximately 5-6 hours

End at: The Cranky Croc Hostel, Cl. 12d #346, Bogotá, Colombia

• We will end our trip at the original starting point
