So many times I heard this in my childhood, back in the Colombian Caribbean:
\u201cWe are Catholic, Apostolic, Roman\u2026<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So many times I heard this in my childhood, back in the Colombian Caribbean. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve seen people whip themselves across the back\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 and others climb Monserrate on their knees during Holy Week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But this\u2026 this is different. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Crosses made by miners. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Men full of faith who decided to pay tribute to God. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That God who gives them the courage to do one of the hardest jobs there is\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 one that many of you would never dare to do. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Over time, that tribute became a national wonder<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In every tunnel I walk through, and upon reaching this perfect dome, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 I imagine the miner with his pickaxe and his lantern\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 chiseling the salt rock with sweat on his brow, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 the smell of sulfur, the gases of the mine\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 and the same passion as an artist before his canvas. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There, amidst so much darkness and solidity, the crosses were born. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 And sculptors arrived, bringing figures to join the work. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A blend of culture, Catholic faith, and memories of the Muisca ancestors\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 that turned claustrophobia into awe, <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 and the mine\u2026 into wonder. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Creation of Man<\/em>, inspired by the work of Michelangelo, brings together two universes: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 the Sistine Chapel and the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquir\u00e1. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Because yes, Colombians are imaginative. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 We work with our bare hands, as the saying goes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But what is here\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 is pure symbolism. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 It is true art. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 It is a sacred labyrinth designed by miners who dreamed big. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And today, standing in this place, I once again hear what they used to tell me: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 we are Catholic, Apostolic, and Roman.<\/em> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 But this\u2026 <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 this is a brand on another level. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

 This is Colombian identity carved in salt<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
