That Friday morning, I woke up and brushed my teeth as usual. Looking out the window, I saw snow halfway up my car. In that moment, I decided to spend the weekend differently. After landing in Bogot\u00e1 at 6:30 a.m., I headed straight to the meeting point at The Cranky Croc Hostel. There, I met my guide Natalia and the rest of the travelers. Together, we drove through the mountains in a comfortable white van for about an hour and a half until we reached the coffee farm I had always dreamed of visiting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Behind a red-walled fence and a Spanish-style roof was the true reason for my trip. We were greeted by the farm\u2019s friendly dogs\u2014Michael Prince Jackson, Mark Antony, Charlie, and Liz Taylor\u2014and welcomed with a traditional tinto campesino<\/strong> sweetened with panela.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our hosts\u2014Karen, Jasmin, Julieth, Yola, and Marcela\u2014guided us through the coffee-making process: picking, pulping, washing, fermenting, and drying. We learned about Colombia\u2019s coffee regions, visited the compost area, and harvested coffee cherries ourselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back at the long table, Marcela ground fresh coffee beans, prepared them in a French press, and served the richest, most aromatic cup I had ever tasted. Sitting there, overlooking the valley, I realized this was more than coffee\u2014it was a life-changing experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
